So, I have just come back from an extraordinary journey to Stockholm where I was recording and composing some music for a couple of days.

I can't get over how advanced EMS is, to have space which is completely dedicated to the production of sound, music and community,

Their library is amazing and they are committed to pushing boundaries and doing really thoughtful work. I first went there 9 years ago I wrote to Mats Linstrom with an idea for a work and went over, sleeping on a settee for two weeks and seemed to do 18-hour sessions in EMS to write my work Alpha which was released by Entracte. My love and dedication seemed to pay off. This time I stayed in a fantastic youth hostel called Chapman & Skeppsholmen on one of the islands, I was at the top of an old army barracks in a room with 17 other people and had the amazing privilege of walking through Stockholm early in the morning to get the studio.
Thank you EMS for your time,

Review in the Wire Music Magazine

I had a really good review in the wire music magazine of Sunshine over Nimbus this month. It is in the August edition so, if you have a copy keep an eye out for it. The EP explores the area of Highbury and Islington where I live and work, it's a smaller more compact work that the large scale works I normally write. All the material is generated from my own voice composed into miniature landscapes of sound. You can hear it on Spotify, iTunes, apple music or download it from Bandcamp. It is released through my own label soft apple Jo

Hallo ,
I've posted up a selection of new sound art prints from my studio.

The images are made from sound wave forms and photographs of fingers and my mouth.I have tried to strip away all references and wait for forms to just emerge, which they have done. The image above is called Fractal Jewels Blue" I love it and love the landscape and spacial forms within the images. I hope you like it too.

The image is above fractal jewels blue" is available in the following dimensions.

So I really enjoy selling things especially my own music.
Today I'm doing an experiment on my bandcamp page. I've changed the price of my tracks .I've priced things depending on how much time I've spend on them.
I've done this for a number of reasons , but mainly that fact I stumbled upon a website that was offering musician services for £3.60 an hour, people were betting for 15 minutes of work as a freelancer. When I reflect back on the costs that musicians incur through practice, education instruments equipment, time delivery, travel sites just make a mockery of the system for music.

I'm not happy with selling my music for £1 on bandcamp and on iTunes, it feels so wrong when you compare the costs of studio time, creativity equipment and the actual royalties that come back. As an independent label I'm not happy with how much it costs to make high quality physical albums and also the niche market so I'm thinking of ways to develop my own way of selling work that explores value, ethics and cost.

Just for today, I've changed the prices on the page just to see what it physically looks like, I put most of the work up to £1,000 or at least over £500 for 1 track.
I've left some tracks the same as I couldn't bring my self to change them.
Its just for a day , to see how it feels.

Its is something that I am going to try to do again. That is,questioning aspects of value and worth in different parameters for music and art.

As an independent artist I can do this, I am my own responsibility,my own aesthetic, my own shop.
So I'll just try it and see,

Will write back soon,
