Nice review of Ultra Tonal by Julian Thomas . So I thought I should share.
Thank you Julian.
Ultra Tonal
Jo Thomas – no relation! – has just released her EP Ultra Tonal for download from her website. This is a free download in either mp3 or loss-less formats.
Around the 7 minute mark, these three pieces are wonderfully concise statements that seem to stay true to the tonal palette found in her other releases. I found it refreshingly rare to found someone to be so concerned with compact form as to release these miniatures.
As I mentioned in my post about Helena Gough, I like works where I can see a logical progression of timbral treatments, and each of these three pieces work the material to its utmost.
Well worth a listen, and while you are there, check out the download for Alpha live, and if you have a means of playing vinyl - buy the album Alpha!
